Our mission is to empower parents with the confidence to recognise, react and respond to a baby or child health emergency with our First Years Workshop.

Servicing the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Hunter Regions

Focusing on providing real life, practical advice, we want to ensure you can respond with confidence when faced with a crisis. We concentrate on the newborn stage right through to about 8 years of age, but most of the skills you will master during our 'First Years Workshop' can be transferred to adult first aid.
With our unique and straightforward approach, participants improve their confidence and learn new skills with a 3 hour workshop.

First Years First Aid is run by a qualified Intensive Care Paramedic, with over a decades worth of experience. More importantly, Jess is a mum to two children.

“I have been a Paramedic and facilitated first aid courses for years, but it wasn’t until I had my own babies that I fully appreciated how frightening it can be when they are sick or injured. This was really amplified when I suffered from post natal anxiety around my first babies health and well-being.  I felt really helpless during this time, so it’s my passion to help parents feel empowered, not fearful, when their little ones are sick, injured or suffering.”

First Years First Aid Workshops are baby and child friendly. We run regular designated “mums and bubs” workshops where you can mix with other new mums and nurture that all important fourth trimester by keeping your baby with you while you learn.

Private workshops are available on request, and are a great option for clubs, businesses, mothers groups or families.

We can come to you or you can train in one of our locations. Accredited first aid and CPR courses are also available on request (RTO 45193).

FIRST YEARS WORKSHOP

Our goal is to empower people through the expansion of knowledge and skills. This workshop is a great way to begin that journey.

We often find that when faced with a medical emergency we just don’t know what to do, especially with the heightened fear when it happens to our baby or child. Freezing and panic may be natural reactions, but they aren't helpful in an emergency situation.

Our workshops cover common medical complaints and injuries that our young ones may sustain.

They are a great way to learn essential skills to help keep you calm, before you may need them.

In our 3 hour workshop you will learn:

  • How to recognise common childhood illnesses and injuries

  • How to monitor for red flags to know when to seek help

  • Practical application of critical first aid which may mean the difference in your child's health outcomes.

  •  Where to find the appropriate help.

Trainer Bio:

Jess is an Intensive Care Paramedic working locally in the Hunter for a decade. She has worked with a partnership RTO to facilitate first aid training for the last 8 years. She holds her Cert iv in Training and Assessment, has experience in Paramedic Education as well as having her Bachelor degree in Paramedics (2009) with a Post Graduate Certificate in Intensive Care Paramedics (2013). She has two children (aged 4 & 1) so understands the stress and heartache of having sick or injured children.

The First Years Workshop was created as she saw many other mums struggling with their emotions when faced with a health emergency. She believes knowledge is power and that by arming yourself with skills and information, you can advocate for your child's health.

Always striving to ensure the best clinical care and training, our content has also been reviewed by registered paediatric nurses and midwives.
